ENG. A few months ago, I made an illustration of myself holding my baby; we are joined by a heart and surrounded by the toys that have been his favorites so far. I really just wanted to create an illustration of the two of us—something simple that represented my love for him and his expanding universe. There is the dinosaur I bought him 15 years ago (that’s right, fifteen years ago!), a little mouse book my brother gave him, a nut-shaped rattle and a robot from a baby gym given by my cousin Sofi, a triceratops from my friend Eli, an elephant from his grandfather, the teddy bear I made him, two mosnters (dog toys) my mom saved for him, a Mario Bros figure from his aunt Anahí, a blue puppy from his Aunt Ana, a 36-year-old My Little Pony that was mine, and his deer comfort toy—the very first toy I bought for him.
These were his favorite toys during his early days. Now he is nine months old; his interests and activities have gradually shifted, and he keeps me busier than ever. Every day, I admire his sense of wonder and the ease with which he is coming to understand the world.
This is the first illustration I’ve created after months of not drawing, and I think it turned out pretty well. My baby has truly touched my body and soul, and I am so happy he finally arrived. I want to give him the illustrations I create—to share who I am, with my light and shadow, and all my colors.

ESP.
