NSFW Art show

Spoke art’s NSFW Art show
curated by Dasha Matsuura

”Spoke Art NSFW, a group exhibition featuring over 40 femme artists exploring sex and sexuality. This dynamic array of artists displays a complex spectrum of experiences from introspective and intimate to playful and defiant.

Returning for its third iteration the exhibition explores and expands on what it means to be a sexual femme presenting person today. Including a wide variety of media such as painting, drawing, embroidery and ceramics, each artist presents facets of sexuality from the feminine viewpoint. The exhibition seeks to celebrate the ever shifting and multi-dimensional experience of each artist from soft sensuality to frank brashness.

Each piece delves into the complexity of femme sexuality, not as a definitive narrative, but as a larger conversation. Giving voice to artists across the spectrum of gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, racial background and experiences, the exhibition explores how each artist relates to their own sexuality.”

PAPER TIGER

PAPER TIGER curated by Hellion gallery at Not a gallery
19 09 2019

Last night the show was full of amazing art, these are some of my favorite pieces: Meg Adamson, Violeta Hernandez, Jon Macnair, Diana Bama, Mike Sandoval, Youko Horiuchi.

ENG. This is the piece I made for the exhibition. The original art was made with ink on paper and then I made another version adding some color and texture for a unique print which fortunately found a new loving home last night.

I really enjoyed doing this painting because I had never done a tiger before and I usually tend to add color to my work, but this time I just wanted something that would enhance the line work. Of course I made a third version full of color (just because I love color) for limited edition prints that I will put on my Etsy shop soon.

Great show and delicious mezcal!

ESP.

Grandes guanajuatenses

ENG. I was recently invited to participate in a project about important characters of Guanajuato (Mexico), particularly from popular and artistic fields . It is a very beautiful book illustrated by great Mexican artists and illustrators, all of them with a great and unique style.

The title of the book is Grandes guanajuatenses and I had the chance to illustrate these three artists: Agustín Lanuza (writer), Arturo Martínez Negrete (singer) and Luis García Gerrero (painter).

ESP.

The birth of a word

Creative process for The birth of a word illustration.

ENG. I didn't use to share the first steps of my illustrations, but I think it is cool to see the work behind  and all the decisions made in each stage.

The first one is a very general drawing in which I only work on the composition: spaces,  forms, elements, etc. The second stage is a graphite drawing and it's like a study with lights and shadows where I decide which elements stay and the ones that have to go. The third one is a very intricate and detailed ink drawing and usually the one I like the most (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder). After the ink I add color with acrylic, watercolors, color pencils and markers. Then comes the digital part. In this stage I correct mistakes, modify saturation, tones and add textures. It is always the longest and most difficult stage because I usually add a lot of detail and sometimes I paint over the image layer by layer until I achieve something I like.

Proceso creativo para la ilustración The birth of a word (El nacimiento de una palabra).

ESP.
